Runner gets homeless back on track.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/04/02/heroes.mahlum/index.html

What an inspiring story about a runner who is training for a marathon. One day while training, the runner had another opportunity to think about the current situation of the homeless she ran by every morning. An idea came to mind to get the homeless on a training program that can get them on the right track in life. Many quit drugs, and become dedicated. Thus it taught the homeless discipline, how to set and achieve goals, and a new found self-worth. If you are to be homeless in particular shelters, the program states you must run with the group of others three times a week between 530 -600 am.

What an amazing heart and drive this runner has.

"Running really is a metaphor for life," she says. "There is always another mile. You just have to take it one step at a time."

Wow, Shoes?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080401/lf_nm_life/sneakers_leaders_dc

Check out this article. A study shows that if you were to buy three or more shoes a year, you are more than likely leadership material. Reasons include: " These qualities were defined as having ideas and vision, and a style with others that is both inclusive and decisive."

It has often been said that you can tell alot about a person by the shoes they wear. It is now backed up. A crazy thing is it is conclusive across the board regardless of age, income and gender.

According to this theory, I am more than enough to be leadership material. It is correct too, consider I want to be in leadership positions in the future.

Eh

So i gave up trying to figure out what week of anything I was writing from.

The number one thing most people from the "Work world" (and life in general, since most adults think "life begins in the real world" bullshit.)

Get a life, seriously.

No matter what stage of life anyone is in, one of the most important factors to happiness is the feeling of appreciation. Whether that comes from school, a team, your family, or work, it is one of the single best motivators.

At one job, I was underpaid for what I did for that company. Not only did I make them more money than imaginable, retained customers while earning new customers, and for the return on investment, I was practically free. All i wanted was a sign of appreciation, at the very least, "personal motivation" and not some reward motivation bullshit. From a team standpoint, we won nearly each weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi annual, and yearly contests. From our hard work, only our store manager, who by the way did nothing towards the recognition, reaped all of the praise. F him. He did not even say, "great job guys, you pulled us through again, or anything. Not even the silly pizza parties. No appreciation was shown. Once we picked up on that, we stopped going out of our way, just to receive simple appreciation. Needless to say, the awards stopped coming in. Soon, he was canned. I smiled :)

Week Ten on CSR 309 or 11th

So someplace, I lost track of what week my blogs are to be in. Oh well.

Some person came into an office of some sort and asked, "if I had the secret to success, would you give me 25k to find out what it is?"

The secret to success the stranger had written on the envelope was
1. List things what you need to do.
2. Do them.

The stranger received 25,000.

another lesson from Dr. Feinberg are his tips to leadership!

1. Tell them what you expect
2. Make it doable
3. Reward them
4. Give them feedback
5. When it is done reward again

Be sure to train them over and over to "condition" them for opportunities with your wonderful leadership skills

EXPECTATION LEADS TO BEHAVIOR.

Rule 1
Customer is always right

Rule 2
If wrong, read rule 1 again.

I cannot stand that rule sometimes. The customer is not always right.

Ninth Week Continued

What are my priorities??

Week Nine of CSR 309

During the Ninth week (or is it tenth? Shoot) , we had a guest speaker that was actually hilarious. And G*&% Damnit, i hate my (and the human nature) tendency to stereotype. At first really thought Mr. Kirk Weisler was going to be a silly man. However, in the need I realized it was me who was silly for jumping to conclusions. Kirk was enlightening in his stories that related to leadership opportunities that await each and everyone of us in our daily lives. On of his lessons, that any child could learn, was a story called "The Dog Poop Initiative." There is not a better way to show the stupidity of American people than this children book that many schools, corporations, and people of leadership positions now own.

All week I was thinking about the lessons of Initiatives in this poopy book. You would not believe how retarded people around me are in terms and just "doing something about it."
Last night (when I posted this in my notebook), I was at a bar and we needed one more chair for our group. People just stood around like, "oh god what do we do? We are one chair short...we cant do this." i watched and observed. I laughed and muttered to my group about the "dog poop initiative" and asked what their issue was about going to another table to get a chair.lol. Wow. We are pathetic as a society in terms of taking initiatives.

In the future, I will always think about this book and apply it into leadership. If my pupils just simply take initiative, it will be amazing what my INC will accomplish. You will here about it as one of the top 100 companies to work for. I promise.

Some lessons:

"Everything you do counts"

55% expression
38% tone of voice
7% actual words

-words of affirmation
-gifts
-time
-physical touch
-acts of services

RESPECT! Day to Day

Fear of motivations, or Reward Motivation. Neither, personal motivation is the best.

Remarkability = BIG MOO = memorability = opposition divisibility.

Week Eight of CSR 309

I know this will seem very late, however, do not worry. I have been blogging in a notebook during class sessions with the lessons fresh in mind.

During this particular week, I had been thinking about the funeral assignment. How do people view me when I would be lying in my coffin, or glass of ashes (whatever my family wants to do with me). "What impact did i have on those around me? How do they feel about me?"

I feel like that 95% of the people around me would say good things about me. "He was really nice. Jesse enjoyed helping people out genuinely. Jesse was a funny person and he would use his humor to loosen people up, to bring them up and smile. Jesse was a very laid back person, but he was also serious about life and work. He loved his family so much. he would always quit work for rest of his life if it were to be the best for his family. He was not selfish.

A few people may say that I could come across as an asshole. Generally speaking, that is a perception they hold because I feel they cannot handle constructive criticism. As a leader, i feel you must not be afraid to talk to someone about them if it benifits them in a positive manner in the long term. If they are able to understand the constructive criticism, then those people would probably bring my first percentage up to 98%.

I hope I am doing things for the right reasons in life. I feel that I do.i also will continue to learn everyday to better myself and those around me on my way of leaving a positive and influential legacy in my family's name. :)
